Jessica Smith (class of 2003) originally had the idea to make the package design like a puzzle ring (shown below). She would compose it of four interlocking tubes (one for each toy), so that one would have all four toys and could also play with the packaging. In the end, however, her original idea seemed impossible, and she switched to an idea on the other end of the spectrum, as often happens in graphic design. While her first idea was organically shaped and round, she ended up completing a cube. The cube would house all four toys (represented here by cylinders), and the translucency of the box would emphasize the materials within, rather than the container itself. Two sides show images of a spiral galaxy that morphes into a double helix, while the other two offer information about the toys within and are backed by an image of a young boy playing with a DNA model.
